Kathy Niakan was named one of Time magazine’s Pioneers for the 100 Most Influential People of 2016. She has begun to apply the technique for editing the genome that Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer Doudna have developed, also known as CRISPR. Niakan does this to study the effects of genes in human development. Her experiments will provide answers for a myriad of questions involving embryonic development, and the opportunity to better humanity.
