“WE ARE GOING TO EMPOWER GIRLS ONLINE WITHOUT BEING WORRIED OF PHYSICAL & GEOGRAPHICAL DISTANCES.”
In 2015, Fereshteh Forough, a former professor of computer science at Herat University, created an all-female coding school in Afghanistan. Code to Inspire is a nonprofit organization committed to teaching female students in Afghanistan how to code. It aims to link women’s economic and social advancement to Afghanistan’s growing tech industry. Code to Inspire allows women to receive employment that is not only financially rewarding, but also socially accessible. Forough has developed a key tool in the push for equality and continues to challenge the traditional gender roles in Afghanistan.
“Her passion is to empower young women from Afghanistan by improving their technical literacy. Her goal with Code To Inspire is educating Afghan women with in-demand programming skills, empower them to add unique value to their communities, and inspire them to strive for financial and social independence. Fereshteh is an advocate of using Bitcoin and the first to formally promote its use in Afghanistan.”
